How Nigerians Can Unbar Their Barred Numbers Due to NIN Issues Abuja, Nigeria — July 30, 2024

there was a bit of panic on friday 26th of July through sunday and even monday as several communication numbers/line of several nigerians were barred from making use of communication services due to issues related to NIN.

In response to the ongoing issues surrounding the mandatory linkage of mobile numbers to the National Identification Number (NIN), many Nigerians have found their phone numbers barred from making calls. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have outlined steps to unbar these numbers, ensuring that citizens can stay connected.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to unbar your barred number due to NIN issues:

Step 1: Obtain Your NIN If you haven't registered for your NIN, you will need to do so at an NIMC enrollment center. To find the nearest center, visit the NIMC official website or use the NIMC mobile app. Bring along a valid form of identification, such as your BVN, international passport, driver's license, or voter’s card.

Step 2: Link Your NIN to Your Mobile Number Once you have your NIN, link it to your mobile number. This can be done in several ways:

USSD Method Dial the USSD code provided by your network provider:

MTN: Dial *996*NIN# and follow the prompts. Airtel: *121*NIN# and follow the prompts. Glo: *109* NIN# and follow the prompts. 9mobile: *200*8# nd follow the prompts.

Online Method Visit the NIN portal of your mobile network provider:

MTN: MTN NIN Portal Airtel: Airtel NIN Portal Glo: Glo NIN Portal 9mobile: 9mobile NIN Portal Enter your mobile number and NIN, then submit the form.

Step 3: Confirmation and Waiting Period After submitting your NIN, you will receive a confirmation message from your network provider. This process might take a few hours to a couple of days. Ensure your phone is switched on and connected to the network during this period.

Step 4: Contact Customer Support If your number remains barred after linking your NIN, contact your network provider’s customer support for assistance. Here are the customer support contacts for major network providers:

MTN: 300 +23480310180 (for international callers) Airtel: 300+2348021500111 (for international callers) Glo: 300 +2348050020121 (for international callers) 9mobile: 300 or +2348090000200 (for international callers) You can also visit a nearby service center of your network provider for in-person assistance.

Step 5: Verify Your NIN Status Ensure that your NIN is active and correctly registered in the NIMC database. You can check your NIN status by visiting the NIMC verification portal.

Step 6: Revalidate Your SIM If all else fails, you may need to revalidate your SIM card at a network provider's service center. Bring along your NIN slip and a valid ID.

By following these steps, Nigerians can ensure their mobile numbers are unbarred and remain connected. The government urges all citizens to complete the NIN-SIM linkage process to avoid future disruptions
